One of the finest programs in the Pacific Northwest, the Lane Dance Program develops the dancer physically, emotionally and academically. Regardless of your prior experience with dance, Lane’s dance program offers courses of all levels to help you grow and expand your technique. Geared toward both the transfer student and those seeking personal enrichment, the program offers classes in contemporary and ballet technique, somatics, theory, and world dance.

Lane’s dance program is designed for both the dance major and the dance enthusiast, so whether you’re taking classes to fulfill your degree requirements or just for fun, there’s a place for you. The Dance Program offers four courses that satisfy the Arts and Letters requirement for the AAOT Degree including D160 Dance Composition, D260 Group Choreography, D251 Looking at Dance, and D256 Anatomy of the Moving Body. Consider the 2+1 Program, Earn 2 Degrees in 3 Years
Lane Community College and University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) in the United Kingdom (UK) are offering an exciting 2+1 Global Transfer degree program. Through this program, you can earn your associate’s degree as well as a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Dance or Acting in just three years!
Classes in contemporary, ballet, and jazz are offered in a sequence for different skill levels, to help you progress in your ability and challenge yourself. The choreography series includes improvisation, dance composition and group choreography. Somatic classes include Gyrokinesis, body-mind stretch and relaxation, pilates, dancing the fluid body (Continuum), authentic movement, fluid yoga, and contact improvisation. To deepen your dance experience, the dance department also offers classes in Balinese, African, hip hop, musical theatre, tap and more!
There are many opportunities to learn from inspiring Lane Dance Faculty and renowned visiting artists. Lane dance students have had the privilege of taking master classes with artists and companies such as Bill Evans, Susan Marshall, Alvin Ailey Dance Company, David Parsons Dance Company, Joe Goode Dance Company, Pat Graney, Christian Swenson, Nita Little, Martha Graham Dance Company, Nrityagram Dance Company, Ni Ketut Arini, Amy O'Neil, Aaron Draper, Repertory Dance Company, Stephanie Skura, Barbara Mahler, Christopher Watson, Melecio Estrella, Rachael Lincoln, and Christopher Morgan.
Performance Opportunities
Lane’s dance program offers various performance opportunities throughout the year in the Lane Dance Company, in student dance concerts, in visiting artist performances, in end of term showcases, at Friday Art Walks, screendance films, and more! As one of the only community colleges privileged enough to be a member of the American College Dance Association, we teach our students to be dynamic, collaborative and professional level dancers.
Lane offers students the best of both worlds: a wide variety of courses to choose from and small class sizes. At Lane, you’ll never take a class with more than 40 students, and your class will always be taught by an instructor, not a grad student. Our attentive faculty have real world experience, and they bring those experiences to the classroom! Because of our small class sizes, you’ll have the opportunity to get to know your instructor on a first name basis.
The faculty and advisors for the program can help you meet your career goals. They can answer any program specific questions you might have, and help you find opportunities outside of the classroom. Advisors will help you schedule your classes and plan for the future. You’ll work with them to create a term by term planner that meets your needs and goals to ensure you complete your degree. And if you’re planning on transferring to a four-year school they can help you take the classes you need to count towards your bachelor's degree.

Located in building 5, the dance studios at Lane provide an open, light-filled space to grow and learn as dancers. With a stunning half room enclosure of windows, the main dance studio allows students to take in the incredible natural surroundings of Lane’s main campus while moving through the space. Beautiful, well-kept wood floors allow for safe exploration of movement. While enrolled in dance classes, you’ll have access to full-service locker room facilities before and after your class!
Throughout the year, you’ll have many opportunities to perform in our beautiful main theatre, the Ragozzino Performance Hall. Our Blue Door Theatre provides an intimate performance space for students to explore dance and theatre performances. Interested in learning about other areas of the performing arts? Lane offers exemplary Music and Theatre programs that can augment your learning in the dance program. Classes in costume design, stage makeup, acting, music theory, music production and more help make you a more well-rounded artist.
Talent Grants are awarded to exceptional students who demonstrate the potential to succeed in the field of dance. This includes talent, dedication, discipline, commitment and respect for the art form. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 in Performing Arts and at least a 2.0 in other courses.
Students must demonstrate outstanding studentship, which includes modeling of high standards and respect for teachers, fellow students and the facilities. Talent Grant students are chosen through auditions by the dance faculty to serve as role models in the program. Talent Grants pay tuition for 12 credits and are awarded in Winter term and continued into Spring term if all of the criteria are met.
Performing Arts Incentive Grants are available each term for students taking two or more dance classes. Applications for each term are submitted at the end of the previous term. For more information contact Bonnie Simoa.
