Multimedia designers express ideas through the creative use of technology. They combine text, audio, video, animation, photography, and motion graphics to create content for informational, promotional, educational, and artistic projects. Lane’s Multimedia Design program will help guide you through many forms of artistic expression to help develop the skills necessary to be competitive in the multimedia industry.
Do you like working in fast-paced, ever-changing environments? Have you ever found yourself doodling in the margins of your textbooks and then creating a flipbook of your doodles? Ever wondered how foley artists create the sound of dog paws on the kitchen floor or the impact of a turning side kick when a foot makes contact with an actor’s face? Have you fiddled around with software like Maya, Blender, or After Effects and forgotten how much time has passed? If this sounds like you, Lane’s Multimedia Design program could be right for you!
Whether you’re interested in creating marketing materials for business, working in post-production, audio/video production, animation, website design, and more, our Multimedia Design program will provide you with the fundamentals you need to start your career.

Through our classes both in-person and online, you’ll learn to:
- plan, storyboard, and shoot video
- create foley and sound effects, dub audio, and integrate theme music for film, games, animation and other forms of time-based media
- use industry-preferred software like Maya, Pro Tools, Adobe Creative Cloud, and DaVinci Resolve
- stage and photograph people, animals, and objects
- create motion graphics projects
- create and edit video and audio
- design and manipulate vector and raster graphics for use in animation or video
- work in a professional studio environment with industry-standard equipment
- be part of, or manage, a productive creative team
Classes are designed around project-based, hands-on learning focused on both the creation of media—filming, capturing audio, stop motion animation, storyboarding for animation and film, and photography—and their manipulation in post-production—audio and video editing, creation of motion graphics, and animation.
As a multimedia student, you’ll specialize in one or more focused areas: media post-production, photography, audio/video production, or motion capture/animation. These focused areas will help tailor the program to meet your interests and help you stand out in the job market.
Lane offers students the best of both worlds: a wide variety of courses to choose from and small class sizes. At Lane, you’ll never take a class with more than 40 students, and your class will always be taught by an instructor, not a grad student. Our attentive faculty have real world experience, and they bring those experiences to the classroom! Because of our small class sizes, you’ll have the opportunity to get to know your instructor on a first name basis.
The faculty and advisors for the program can help you meet your career goals. They can answer any program specific questions you might have, and help you find opportunities outside of the classroom. Advisors will help you schedule your classes and plan for the future. You’ll work with them to create a term by term planner that meets your needs and goals to ensure you complete your degree. And if you’re planning on transferring to a four-year school they can help you take the classes you need to count towards your bachelor's degree.

Employers are interested in more than just your degree. It’s important that you’re able to show that you have relevant, real world work experience. While in the multimedia program, you’ll be required to complete six credits worth of Cooperative Education courses. Our Cooperative Education department partners with local businesses and organizations to provide internships for students in multimedia! Opportunities include web design, graphic design, video production, audio production, photography, gaming, and more.
While earning your degree, you’ll automatically earn the multimedia design certificate. This certificate helps demonstrate to employers that you’re ready for an entry level position in the media industry, and careers in multimedia design and production. Not sure if you want to go on and earn the full two-year degree? This certificate will introduce you to the multimedia field and help you explore if the career is for you!
By carefully choosing electives and taking just a few more courses, you can earn your web design certificate. The Media Arts facilities were completely remodeled in 2018. Open, inviting spaces give you a place to collaborate with peers, meet with instructors, or rest between classes. New labs, featuring large screen iMacs, 27 inch Wacom Cintiq tablets, scanners, printers, and a fully programmable laser cutter provide you professional quality, industry standard tools. You’ll have access to state of the art equipment and advanced computer labs and software, a full video production studio, photographic film developing and printing facilities, a professional recording studio, a lavishly equipped MIDI lab, and more. Stop by the second floor of Building 18 to see why many students call this their new home on campus.
