About the Program
On the advice of the governor’s office, the Oregon Health Authority, and Lane Community College leadership, the Lane Massage Program will not conduct face-to-face, hands-on classes in the summer 2020 or fall 2020 terms. Massage Program administrators are discussing possible online options for some classes, but this process is currently only in the planning stages. Lane Massage Program staff
Lane Community College's Massage Therapy Program is designed to give our students a strong foundation in both the academic and hands-on elements of therapeutic massage. Our courses are designed to prepare students to take the licensing exams required by the Oregon Board of Massage Therapists, and our curriculum is approved by the Board and by the State of Oregon Department of Community College and Workforce Development. Instructors in the program bring years of professional experience from the field of massage and bodywork into the classroom.
The Oregon Board of Massage Therapists requires proof of completion of a minimum of 625 classroom hours to be considered for licensure. Those hours must include at least 200 hours of health sciences – which include Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, and Kinesiology – and 300 hours of Massage Theory and Practical Application, Clinical Practice, Business Development, Communication, Ethics, and Sanitation. Applicants must also show proof of CPR certification* and must be at least 18 years of age.
*CPR classes are offered at Lane's Mary Spilde Downtown Center, 101 West 10th Ave.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers is a 4.5-hour class specifically aimed at healthcare professionals and students in healthcare fields. Oregon law now requires that LMTs received CPR certification in a class that offers BLS instruction.
The cost of tuition, fees, and supplies to complete the program is approximately $9,000. Textbooks total around $700.
