Games fundamentally shape our culture and engage people with ideas: from providing entertainment, to helping people achieve goals like weight loss, building savings, or learning a new skill. No matter what your future plans in the gaming industry are, Lane’s Simulation and Game Development degree will help you get there.

Creating games is a great way to learn some of the most interesting and advanced programming techniques, while working on fun, stimulating projects. Through our classes both in-person and online, you’ll learn to:
- Create and develop original game concepts
- Refine and develop your original game concepts to create well-thought out, appealing games
- Collaborate with other developers and artists
- Understand the concepts and principles that make effective, engaging games
- Create working games based on your concepts
- Program using many different languages including C++, C#, Python, and Javascript
- Create digital art including 3D modeling, texting, and sculpting using industry standard software like Adobe Photoshop, Maya, and Mudbox
- Use industry standard video game engines, like Unity3D, to develop interactive games and simulations
- Design, program, test, debug and document computer simulation or game programs
- Develop skills and knowledge in computer animation using industry standard tools
Lane offers students the best of both worlds: a wide variety of courses to choose from and small class sizes. At Lane, most of your classes will have at most 20 - 30 students, and your class will always be taught by an instructor, not a grad student. Our attentive faculty have real world experience, and they bring those experiences to the classroom! Because of our small class sizes, you’ll have the opportunity to get to know your instructor on a first name basis.
The faculty and advisors for the program can help you meet your career goals. They can answer any program specific questions you might have, and help you find opportunities outside of the classroom. Advisors will help you schedule your classes and plan for the future. You’ll work with them to create a term by term planner that meets your needs and goals to ensure you complete your degree. And if you’re planning on transferring to a four-year school they can help you take the classes you need to count towards your bachelor's degree.

In your second year of the program, you’ll work in a small team to design an original video game from the ground up. Your team will include artists and programmers, and you’ll be mentored by an industry representative to help you create the best game possible. Upon completion of your game, you’ll have the opportunity to show off your team’s final project at an end of the year show for members of the local game development industry!
In addition to demonstrating your skills in front of people already working in industry, you’ll also have the opportunity to collaborate with them directly. Our Cooperative Education department partners with local businesses and organizations to provide internships for students in their field of study. Many students even continue to paid employment at their former internship site.
The CIT lab, located in 19/135, provides you with a home to connect with other CIT faculty and students. Every day, tutors are available to ensure you’re mastering class concepts. Lab computers include the software you’ll use both in class and your career, and are available to you the whole time you’re working on your degree. Stop by to check out our comfy couches and enjoy a cup of coffee or hot chocolate!
